and, or, but, for など
1) He speaks English and Spanish very well.
2) SHe is a clever and beautiful lady..
3) She did it for my sake and for her own sake too.
for my sake と for her own sake が対等に結ばれている。
4) She went to Boston last SUnday and bought some red socks
5) He bought new shirts, but he didn't buy any pants.
I missed the last train yesterday, so I stayed at the nearest hotel to the station.
6) I missed the last train yesterday の節を、so を挟んで I stayed at the nearest station to the dtstion
He went home, for he had no money with him
both A and B, not only A but also B, Neither A nor B, either A or B, not A but B, A as well as B など
1) She is well known both in India and in England.
in India と in England の2つの前置詞句が both で対等に結ばれている。
2) I like him not only because hei is rich but (also) because he is a man of integrity.
not only A but also B (A だけでなく B も) の形で2つの because 節が対等に結ばれている。
3) My grandmother neither drives nor rides a bicycle.
4) We have to choose either to stay here to work hard or to live easy lives.
either A or B (A か B かどちらか) の形で、2つの to 不定詞句(to stay・・と to live・・)が対等に結ばれている。
*live easy lives = 「気楽な生活をする」
5) He is not a politician but a businessman.
not A but B (AではなくB) の形で対等に結ばれている。
6) He speaks Japanese as well as English.
A as well as B (A も B も) で対等に結ばれている。

A as well as B |
His friends as well as he are resposible for that. |

1) when 〜する時
・We will talk about it when he comes.
When you get off at Tokyo station, please leave the station thorough the Yaesu exit.
As I entered the classroom, a blackboard eraser dropped on my head.
Don't use the mobile phone as you drive.

意味は少々異なるが、as/so long as, as far as も同じように副詞節を導く従属接続詞である。
I will stay at home if it rains tomorrow.
If I were a bird, I could fly in the sky.
He studies late at night unless he is too tired.
Unless you go away, I will call the police.
3) suppose (supposing) (that) もし〜なら
・Suppose it rains, what should we do?
Supposing you were in my shoes, what would you say to him? *in my shoes = 「
I will make a deal provided that you invest in the project.
provided (providing) that は、so long as や on the conditions that のように「〜である限りは」「〜という条件においては」と同じ意を表す。
Because he is a man of integrity, we really trust him.
Because he overslept, he was late for the meeting.

Since it is going to snow, take your coat.

As the weather is fine today, let's go on a picnic.
1) so that 〜、so (that) 〜するように、〜するために
・I gave him a ride so he could get back home as quickly as possible.
この so that は in order that としても同じ意味。
・He got up early so that he could get the first train.
We signed the agreement today for fear that we might miss the opportunity.
The sea was so rough yesterday that the cargo ship was not able to get into the harbor.
The sea was very rough−so much so that the cargo ship was not able to get into the harbor.
・He got up so early that he could get the first train.
I was tired, so (that) I went home early.
They worked harder, so (that) they got paid well.
It rained quite heavily, so (that) we got soaked.
such + 不定冠詞(a/an) + 形容詞 + 名詞 + that 節で表す。
・For the first time, she was invited to such a beautiful place that she kept taking pictures.
For the first time, she was invited to so beautiful a place that she kept taking pictures.
Her shock was such that she fainted.
Such is her shock that she fainted.
1) although (though) 〜
Although she had a fever, she went out.
Although I don't like the work, I cannot quit.
2) even if (even though)
He washes the dishes after meals even if he is busy.
Even if you were a millionaire, I would not be your friend.
Young as he was, he managed to do that!
Do as you like.
He runs as I do.
2) as if, as though
He looks as if he is regaining political power.
You talk as if (though) you knew everything.
